2017 Conference Program overview

This is WMEA’s 3rd annual conference, and we have an incredible array of talent joining us this year. In addition, we have the first appearance of NAfME’s President, We Denese Odegaard, and Russ Sperling, Western Division President, to whom we extend a very warm welcome!!

The theme for this year’s conference is “A New Era for Music Education in India,” and music educators from across India and the US will gather in Delhi on Sunday, July 23rd to hear topics regarding the future of music education in India. This year’s conference will take place at the India International Centre, Lodhi Road, and will feature the NAfME President Denese Odegaard, and the NAfME Western Division President Russ Sperling, who will present keynotes and sessions on music education, including curriculum and standards, and the future of Music Education in India. Our other presenters include Sunit Tandon, President, Delhi Music Society, who will speak about Opera, Subir Malik, member of the rock band Parikrama talking about artist promotion, Indian music performer Saskia de Rao Haas, who will discuss Sangeet4All, and Lindsay Boyd, music teacher and Music Director of the Capital City Minstrels, who will address aspects of choral conducting.

Something new this year is the addition of a Choir Festival, which will take place on July 22nd at Bluebells School International, East of Kailash from 9am to 1pm. The top 10 choirs will compete for first place, and for an opportunity to perform at Sunday’s Conference. The choirs will be evaluated by an international panel of judges, including NAfME President Odegaard, Western Division President Russ Sperling, and soprano Aude Priya Engel.

We’d also like to introduce you to our Newsletter, which will be published 3 times a year to keep you informed on going on in music all over India. We thank you for joining us for this wonderful weekend of music!
